Only students and mentors can attend. Other than students, if you have not been obligated as an engineer, you cannot enter. If a guest does not have their iron ring, they will be denied entrance.
The mentor must have spent more than 3 years as an obligated engineer. The same mentor can give the ring to several recipients.
At a certain point in the ceremony, the mentors will have to accompany the candidates on stage according to their program. Please follow the list of names appearing on the screen.
Each candidate will be called quickly according to their program and in alphabetical order. When you will be called, you will go on stage with your mentor and your ring (which will be in the envelope that you will be given before the ceremony). You will then give your mentor the ring and he/she will put it on your small finger.
You can ask one of the wardens or other engineers present at the ceremony to give you your ring and they will be happy to do so.
Semi-formal attire. NO JEANS!
You can contact Sophie Merineau for details: merineau@encs.concordia.ca.
Approximately 1 hour, followed by a 1 hour reception.
There will be a reception during and after the ceremony. Guests can attend the reception while the ceremony is going on.
Absolutely. This is a serious Canadian tradition going back many years. The ring is not jewelery, it is a part of your solemn oath as an engineer.
Yes. If you are taking your final courses this coming summer, you can attend the April ceremony.
No. All applications must be approved by Student Services. They will only approve your application if you are graduating this semester or in the summer semester.
Just the same way the university does not give you your diploma early, the Seven Wardens will not give you your ring early. While this has not been strictly enforced in the past, it will be vigilantly enforced now. If this semester or the summer semester are not your last semester, then you will be REJECTED. NO EXCEPTIONS. No excuses will be accepted.
You must be an undergraduate student in good standing, expecting to complete your requirements for the B. Eng. by the end of the summer. This will be verified by Student Academic Services when you apply.
Normally, 2 weeks after the deadline to apply, check the ECA website for a list of approved candidates.
You will be refunded your money, and are encouraged to reapply once you have completed your studies.
No. Graduation is when you receive your degree.
Absolutely not.
